About Me
Hi, I’m Helen (aka Curious Goose), a British travel-addict with a curious streak, who loves to explore, hike and visit new places.
I’m an Events Professional by trade and love to plan! I’m always planning vacations, weekend hiking trips and city breaks and I’m forever researching new places to visit! Curious Goose travel blog is a place where I share my travel itineraries, tips and destination guides. I’ll also share honest reviews and personal recommendations, to make your travel planning easier!
As well as travelling, my other love is hiking. For me, there’s nothing better than lacing up a pair of hiking boots and setting off to somewhere with beautiful views of mountains, waterfalls, forests, and rivers. Pretty much every trip I take involves a hike or walk of some kind, some of my stand out hikes include hiking in Australia’s Blue Mountains, in the hill country of Ella, Sri Lanka and seeing the incredible Matterhorn in Switzerland. I even sought out some of the best hiking trails in Thailand when I spent 4 months there!
In the UK, I love making the most of the weekend with hiking trips to the Peak District, The Cotswolds or South Coast.
I’ve been luckily enough to take some amazing trips over the years, maximising my holiday time from work and packing as much into my itineraries as possible – whether that’s planning a 3 week road trip from Toronto to Vancouver, or spending two weeks exploring the coastal towns and national parks of Croatia.
I’ve recently come back to the UK after taking the plunge and quitting my job to travel full time with my husband. We started our travels in September 2021, driving our car for 3 months through parts of Europe. We drove from Paris to the French Riviera, through Germany’s beautiful Black Forest and Rhine Valley, and onto the Jungfrau region of Switzerland, before arriving in Spain.
Then in January 2022 we boarded a one-way flight to Thailand, where we spent the next 7 months travelling through Asia. We visited Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Leaving Asia behind, we switched it up and tried van life in Australia for 3 months, travelling along both the west and east coast. After Australia, we flew to New Zealand, where we picked up another van and spent 2 months exploring the north and south islands. We finished our full-time travels with a quick visit to Japan before we arrived back home in the UK.
Now that I am back in the UK and working as a freelance Event Manager, I try to plan as many trips and remote working holidays as I can. I hope through Curious Goose travel, to encourage you to get out, explore and have some adventures of your own.
